To raise awareness about sexual harassment, Student Representative Council of UTAR Kampar organized a two-day exhibition “BEWARE” from March 12 to 13 at the Heritage Hall.

Various pieces of information related to sexual harassment are exhibited in the hall, including real-life stories, common injustice stereotypes on victims, possible behaviours that cause sexual harassments, impacts on victims, how to deal with sexual harassments, and so on.

“I still see a lot of people blaming victims whenever sexual harassment cases happen, even though they did nothing wrong,” said a student who visited to the exhibition.

She also added that this exhibition is very important to promote a correct perspective in understanding sexual harassment so that people will be more aware of protecting the victims and avoiding inadvertently becoming harassers themselves.

Lee Wei Kang, the chairperson of SRC UTAR Kampar mentioned that the reason they organized this exhibition is that he and his members were once involved in a sexual harassment case, and they wanted to help others who face the same experience.

“Many students don’t know how to deal with it and they don’t know who they can seek help from, so we truly hope that the awareness could be raised through this exhibition,” he said.

He also mentioned that they only managed to hold the exhibition for two days because the venue was booked by others, and he hoped that the students would not miss the chance to visit this exhibition.
